New Project

Recently, I had the pleasure of taking photos of a client’s trees in her backyard as art for her home.  It was a great opportunity for me to get to flex my creative muscles a little.  While I love doing “normal” photo sessions of people, it was fun to change it up a bit.  Even after the client’s images are finished, I’ve been able to continue editing and playing with the images to create new artwork.

In order to make this image for my client, I combined 19 individual images.  Although I could have easily fit the treeline in one photo, I wanted the image to have enough detail to be printed at a very large size (up to 60″ wide at the highest possible resolution).

Then, as part of a design challenge for Minted, I decided to have a little fun.  I took the tree furthest to the left, removed the sky, and began pruning away the extra branches to reduce it down to a simple silhouette.  I then took a sunset picture I had taken previously and filled the silhouette with it.  I love how it turned out!  It’s amazing how powerful Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator are when you learn how to use them (although I am far from an expert).

And here’s a final image…

I have to say, I have thoroughly enjoyed letting the creative juices flow on this project!
